Governance Perspectives on Tariffs brings together ASB experts and industry leaders to deliver precisely that. Paul joined ASB in early 2020 following three years advising export and import businesses and four years creating and leading the Asia desk for another leading Australasian bank. Over a 30-year career in international business, Paul started and exited a food & fibre export business, represented the New Zealand Government for eight years in Asia and North America as a Trade Commissioner, Regional Investment Director and Consul General and was also General Manager of a global B2C ecommerce business.
With an interest in cross-border finance, Paul developed business cases for foreign acquisitions in Europe, set up the global footprint for an international payments technology company and raised three rounds of capital for two New Zealand businesses. Paul studied international business, agriculture economics, marketing and finance at Massey University, University of Auckland and Harvard Business School and has been an advisor and board member for numerous businesses, not-for-profits and business councils.
Tony is Managing Director of Greenlea Premier Meats Ltd and currently chairs several associated companies, including Waitoa Industrial Estate Ltd, Waitoa Tannery Ltd, Waitoa Natural Proteins Ltd and Waitoa Farms Ltd.
He is also a council member of the Meat Industry Association and has held a range of governance roles, including as a director of Hills Laboratories.
Tony’s executive career includes roles as Chief Executive of AsureQuality and AFFCO New Zealand, and Managing Director – Marketing and Finance at Greenlea Premier Meats Ltd.
Alongside his management and governance experience, Tony has contributed at both industry and international levels, representing New Zealand at a range of global business forums.
Phil is a corporate and commercial partner at Tompkins Wake. His firm acts for a number of NZ’s leading exporters, including 4 of the 10 largest. Phil is also Chair of Hunter Filling Systems Ltd which earns approximately 25% (and growing) of its revenue from the US.
Felicity is the Executive Director of the New Zealand International Business Forum (NZIBF), where she leads the Forum’s engagement on key trade and economic policy issues and represents the interests of internationally focused businesses in dialogue with government and international partners.
Felicity brings nearly two decades of experience in international trade, foreign policy, and regional engagement, with a strong focus on geopolitics and the Indo-Pacific. She most recently served as New Zealand’s Consul-General in New Caledonia and has held a broad range of roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, with postings in Hong Kong, New York, and the Pacific.
Earlier in her career, Felicity served as Director, Business at the Asia New Zealand Foundation, where she led initiatives to strengthen New Zealand’s business and people-to-people links across Asia. She has a master's in communication studies and a journalism degree.
Chris joined the Commonwealth Bank’s Global Research team in 2005 and has worked as an economist for both ASB and CBA in Auckland and Sydney since then. Chris’s work has involved in monitoring and forecasting trends in the New Zealand economy, with a focus on drawing implications for financial markets and investments.
Chris obtained a Bachelor of Commence degree at Auckland University, majoring in economics.
Prior to joining the Commonwealth Bank and ASB, Chris worked in the funds management industry, for Bankers Trust, BT Funds Management and ASB Group Investments.
Chris has spent over 25 years working in the financial sector. Beyond this experience in finance, Chris spent several years farming and was a New Zealand representative cyclist.
