Overview

The Chapter Zero NZ Board Toolkit centres on a simple five-step approach designed to enable boards and directors to take timely, positive and decisive climate action within their organisations.

In this session, facilitated by Judene Edgar CMInstD, you will receive a comprehensive overview of the Board Toolkit, and have the opportunity to hear from local director and climate consultant Andrew Douglas MInstD about his ongoing climate change journey, including valuable insights and lessons learned so far.

You will leave equipped with a practical action plan to help your board get started. We encourage you to bring other members of your board along to get the discussion going before you even leave the room.

Andrew Douglas

MInstD

Andrew Douglas is the Managing Director of Opportune, a specialist climate consulting and assurance firm based in Dunedin. A Chartered Accountant Fellow, Andrew has over 20 years’ experience spanning carbon reporting, sustainability strategy, climate-related disclosures and business assurance. He works with organisations across New Zealand — including ANZ, Meridian Energy, Te Whatu Ora and the Ministry of Education — to help them navigate emissions regulations and align climate action with strategic goals.

Andrew began his career with PwC in New Zealand before moving to London, where a project on a climate change film sparked a career pivot. He went on to lead carbon verification services at the UK’s Carbon Trust, supporting public and private sector clients in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Returning home in 2012, he founded Opportune to bring technical rigour and practical insight to sustainability challenges.

Alongside his consulting work, Andrew serves on several boards and audit and risk committees, including Sport Otago, and is a national council member for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. He is known for making complex climate frameworks accessible and for helping boards move beyond compliance to action.
