Alan Cassidy is the Manager of Governance Services and Consulting at the Institute of Directors.
Alan has over 30 years’ experience in the field of human resources, people development and organisational change across both the public sector and private sector. His career includes spells as a consultant for organisations such as Accenture and as Head of Human Resources at the Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Justice and five years at New Zealand Police where he was worked in the area of leadership development, talent management, recruitment, employee engagement and cultural change.
He has extensive experience in recruitment and talent management including managing the local operation of a recruitment agency and leading large internal recruitment functions in a range of organisations including the recruitment of senior leaders.
Alan was born in Wellington and has a Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Business Studies (Training and Development), and a post graduate Diploma in Business Administration (Management).

Carrie Hobson is a founding partner of Hobson Leavy Limited, a retained executive search firm based in Auckland. She co-founded Hobson Leavy over 18 years ago, with a focus on executive level appointments at the highest level across all sectors in New Zealand, ranging from start-ups to multinationals in both the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. Hobson Leavy believes that “Leaders Matter” and since 2008 Carrie and the team have worked with hundreds of boards and leadership teams to find the best talent and help lift the bar for the companies they work for. Carrie is very proud of Hobson Leavy and the significant work that it does in the New Zealand market, assisting organisations in finding the best leaders.
Carrie has over 25 year’s corporate experience, initially in banking and finance and latterly in executive search. She has held senior positions in corporate banking with major banks in both New Zealand and the United States and has worked with top level executives, optimising financial performance and implementing company strategy. She has held directorships in both private and public sectors with particular experience in finance, health and human resources. Carrie is a proud alumni of Otago University with an Honours Degree in Economics. She is an approved Certified Finance and Investment Professional and a Member of the Institute of Directors and Global Women. Carrie has also completed the Advanced Course in Executive Search from Cornell University in New York.
Throughout her career, Carrie has worked closely with not-for-profit organisations at a strategic level and was previously the Chief Executive of the St Joseph’s Mercy Hospice Foundation, a charity very close to her heart. She has been a member of the National Heart Foundation Leadership Team that campaigned successfully to raise $5 million to establish the Chair in Heart Health at the University of Auckland. The Chair was successfully launched in 2011 with the appointment of the first Professor in Heart Health. Carrie has also been deeply involved with supporting the establishment of the Unicorn Foundation, a foundation providing support and treatment for neuroendocrine cancer patients.
Carrie currently serves on the Board of the King’s College Foundation and on the Foundation of Otago University.
Carrie is a true Kiwi and is proud of her heritage, in particular her iwi Ngāi Tahu. But most importantly she is a devoted mother to George, Harry and Emelia and husband to Malcolm.
Stella joined the New Zealand Treasury's Governance & Appointments team in 2020 and has been the Manager for nearly two years. Her experience spans across strategy, communications, procurement, recruitment, programme and project management, and governance, with a career covering diverse industries and roles. She has held positions including Branch Manager at Manpower, GM & Operations Manager at Haines, Senior Advisor at MBIE, Lead for Professional Services at DIA, and Programme Manager at the Institute of Directors.
She possesses core competencies in networking, stakeholder management, contract management, and commercial skills, all of which contribute to her effectiveness in governance and appointments within Treasury.

Kirsten (KP) Patterson is the chief executive of the Institute of Directors. She is a qualified lawyer and a Distinguished Fellow of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand. Her governance roles include:

A strong advocate of diversity, KP was a founding member of Global Women’s ‘Champions for Change’, a group of senior executives and directors who commit to diversity in the workplace, and a founding member of WiSPA, an organisation promoting women in sport, and mentors a number of business leaders. KP was also previously Director of the NZ Rugby Foundation.
