Overview

This three-part international event series is being run across multiple time zones. The recordings of each session will be made available promptly to registered delegates in case the live event timing does not suit.

Speakers

Bridget Coates CMInstD

Bridget is an experienced global leader who has built and led businesses in both the United States and New Zealand in recent years. She has held Chairperson, Director and CEO roles across a range of public and private sector entities. She is currently Chair of Fonterra’s Sustainability Advisory Panel to the Board, Chair of Toitū Tahua: Centre for Sustainable Finance, Chair of Koi Tu : Centre for Informed Futures at the University of Auckland, Chair of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand, Director of Comvita Ltd. and Yealands Wine Group and Trustee and Advisor to a number of investment companies and charities. Formerly, she was a Director of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Bridget is seeking governance roles in New Zealand where her Board experience, global business building skills and her venture capital, entrepreneurial, operational and finance backgrounds would be valuable.

Laurissa Cooney CMInstD

Laurissa is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand. Laurissa currently serves as the Chair of Tourism Bay of Plenty, and is an Independent Non-Executive Director for Air New Zealand, Goodman Property Ltd, Accordant Group Ltd and Aotearoa Circle and a Trustee on the Charitable Investment Trust for Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki. She also holds a role as Co-Chair for the Tourism Industry Transformation Plan for the Environment with MBIE and the Visitor Economy Adaptation Roadmap Aotearoa Circle workstream. Laurissa is also a Committee Member of the Chapter Zero NZ Steering Group and was a 2017 recipient of the Institute of Directors Emerging Director Award. Laurissa is of Te Āti Hau Nui a Pāpā Rangi (Whanganui) descent.

Michele Embling MInstD

Michele is a full time non-executive director motivated to work with organisation that strive to have a positive impact on the future of Aotearoa New Zealand.  Her current board appointments include the External Reporting Board - XRB (Chair), Toitū Tahua - The Centre for Sustainable Finance, Transpower and the Australian Financial Reporting Council.

Previously, Michele served as the Chair of PwC New Zealand from 2016 to 2020, was a partner for 15 years and held numerous leadership, executive and governance roles. She is committed to growing diverse and inclusive leadership and was a former deputy chair of Global Women and co-chair of Champions for Change.

Jackie Lloyd CFInstD

Jackie Lloyd BA, BCom, CFInstD, is President of the Institute of Directors and a National Council member. A life-long interest in the relationship between human behaviour and business performance led Jackie through an executive career as the global human resources director for the New Zealand Dairy Board and NZMP Fonterra, to consulting and governance. She is currently chair of Naylor Love Enterprises Ltd and director of AgResearch Ltd and CentrePort Ltd. Jackie is also Deputy Chair of the Lion Foundation and a board member of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

Rachel Afeaki-Taumoepeau CMInstD

Born and raised in Auckland, Rachel is of Pacific (Tonga, Samoa) and Ngati Awa descent, is authentic in her governance and leadership underpinned by her values of integrity, goodwill, and excellence, strategically influencing and encouraging diverse discussions to ‘bridge build’ for the purposes of socio-economic prosperity for communities, businesses, and government for global impact.

An experienced strategic business director across public-private sectors overseeing key relationships across the South Pacific region and throughout New Zealand.  Rachel is the Chair for the Waikato Pacific Business Network – the Pacific lead and activator for business and economic development for the region and was recently invited by Deputy Prime Minister Sepuloni to join the government’s first Pacific Mission post-Covid to the Pacific region, visiting the Solomon Islands, Fiji, and Tonga with a strong focus on climate change, business and international relations.  The founding Chair of the New Zealand Tonga Business Council, which is one of six Pacific bilateral business councils in New Zealand promoting bilateral relations and investment throughout the Pacific region, working very closely with respective governments.  Rachel was a Director for Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) New Zealand between 2015-2020, a member of the PTI Network, the Pacific Region’s lead trade and investment promotions agency and also a Trustee and Interim Chair for the Pacific Business Trust -NZ’s Pacific Economic Development Agency. She enjoys reading, playing golf, and keeping busy as a mother of 4 active young boys. 

Kirsten (KP) Patterson CMInstD

KP is the Chief Executive of the Institute of Directors. She is a qualified lawyer and a Distinguished Fellow of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand, Co-deputy Chair of the Global Network of Directors Institutes (GNDI), Chair of the Brian Picot Ethical Leadership advisory board and was previously Chair of the Wellington Homeless Women’s Trust.
