Join the IoD and Hamish Beaton from Kordia, as he covers everything you need to know about cyber threats.
Drawing from his recent experience as Director at the GCSB’s National Cyber Security Centre(NCSC), and nearly two decades within the New Zealand intelligence community, Hamish will cover how cyber threats and business risks have changed and evolved over recent years, and how security investment and governance approaches have not always kept pace. Hamish will share a few common pitfalls and lessons that organisation leaders have learnt the hard way, in terms of readiness and responses to cyber security incidents.
As General Manager – Cyber Security Advisory, Hamish is responsible for driving Kordia’s Cyber Advisory and Incident Response practices, ensuring consultants are well placed to deliver outstanding cyber security consulting services for customers looking to secure their organisations.
Hamish is passionate about people leadership and business improvement. When talking cyber security Hamish takes a holistic approach to drive uplifts and improvements to the cyber security posture of both private and government organisations.
Prior to joining Kordia, Hamish had previously served as the Director Cyber Security within the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and had worked across various roles within the New Zealand intelligence community.
When working at the NCSC, Beaton led teams responsible for delivering cyber threat detection and disruption services, as well as advisory and incident response support, to New Zealand’s most nationally significant organisations, and has supported the government’s response to major cyber security threats and risks over the years.
Hamish has a background in foreign languages, graduating from Canterbury University with a bachelor’s degree majoring in Japanese and French, and spent several formative years living and working in Japan. Hamish published his debut novel, “Under the Osakan Sun”, based on his time in Japan and is always happy to give hot travel tips for Japan or elsewhere in Asia.
