Hosted by Dame Therese Walsh, Chair of the Chapter Zero New Zealand Steering Committee, this breakfast event will feature a keynote address from Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, Adrian Orr.

Adrian will discuss the Reserve Bank’s climate change strategy and outline how they are working to help to identify, understand and manage climate-related risks to New Zealand's financial system.

The keynote will be followed by a question and answer session, facilitated by Chapter Zero NZ Steering Committee member, Caren Rangi.

Speakers

Adrian Orr

Adrian Orr was appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in March 2018. Previously, Adrian was Chief Executive Officer at the New Zealand Superannuation Fund. During his time there he won many awards including the Deloitte IPANZ Improving Performance through Leadership Excellence award in 2016, and Asian Investor’s Individual Contribution to Institutional Investment Award in 2017.

Prior to that he was Deputy Governor and Head of Financial Stability for the Reserve Bank. Adrian has also held the positions of Chief Economist at Westpac Banking Corporation, Chief Manager of the Economics Department at the Reserve Bank and Chief Economist at The National Bank of New Zealand. He has also worked at the New Zealand Treasury; and the OECD, based in Paris.

Adrian graduated from the University of Waikato in 1983 with a Bachelor of Social Sciences, majoring in Economics and Geography. He also has a Master of Development Economics from the University of Leicester, England, graduating with distinction in 1985.

Dame Therese Walsh DNZM CMInstD

Dame Therese Walsh is an independent director and Chair of Air New Zealand Ltd. and ASB Bank Ltd. and a director of Antarctica New Zealand. She is a former Chair of TVNZ Ltd., Pro Chancellor of Victoria University Wellington, a Director of NZX Ltd., Contact Energy Ltd., NZ Cricket and Save the Children NZ and Trustee of the Wellington Regional Stadium.

In her professional capacity, Dame Therese was Head of New Zealand for the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup, Chief Operating Officer for Rugby New Zealand 2011 Ltd and Chief Financial Officer at the New Zealand Rugby Union and part of the team that worked on the winning bid to host Rugby World Cup 2011.

For her services to sport, she was made a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2015. She was named the supreme winner of the Women of Influence Awards 2013 and awarded a Sir Peter Blake Trust Leadership Award in 2014. She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Caren Rangi ONZM MInstD

Caren Rangi is an experienced public sector governance practitioner, a qualified chartered accountant and a proud Cook Islands Maori.   In 2018, she was conferred with an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to governance and the Pacific community and is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a Member of the Institute of Directors.

Currently Caren is the Chair of the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa and of Pacific Homecare Services, Governor of Radio New Zealand (Te Reo Irirangi o Aotearoa) and a Board member of Te Papa Tongarewa (the Museum of New Zealand), and Pacific Co-operation Broadcasting Ltd.  Her previous governance roles include Chair of the Pacific Business Trust, Board member of NZ On Air (Irirangi Te Motu),founding member of the Charities Registration Board, Director of Le Va and  Deputy Chair of the Eastern and Central Community Trust. In the Cook Islands, Caren is a director of the Cook Islands Investment Corporation, and over the last six years has been instrumental in establishing a director’s development programme for Board members of Cook Islands state-owned enterprises.

Caren believes good governance matters because boards make decisions every day that affect peoples' lives and livelihoods, and in this complex world we now live in, robust decisions help keep us all safe.

Her other passions are her Cook Islands culture and language, good food and wine, and time spent with family and good friends.
