Parliament to debate ESG and director duties

The Institute of Directors (IoD) is delighted the issues raised in our whitepaper on Stakeholder Governance will be debated in Parliament after The Companies (Director Duties) Amendment Bill was drawn out of the members’ bill ballot yesterday (Thursday).

There is an important discussion to be had around how directors may consider wider priorities beyond profit when setting strategic direction, as outlined in our whitepaper, released recently with MinterEllisonRuddWatts.

Our whitepaper has already generated considerable debate and the timing of Labour MP Duncan Webb’s bill, if passed by the House, could lead to directors considering wider measures, such as environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors.
