Consultancy business owner, Annabel Davies has been named the Institute of Directors (IoD) Bay of Plenty branch Emerging Director 2019.

Annabel is the head of risk, regulatory and stakeholder relations at Trustpower, responsible for influencing emerging policy, steering government relations and leading stakeholder engagement. She was formerly the managing director of Tomorrows World Ltd, a sustainability consultancy she launched in 2009.

She is the current chair of Te Toroa Ltd, a landholding company with sustainability objectives, and a former co-chair of the Auckland Resource Management Law Association.

In choosing Annabel for this award, the Bay of Plenty judges said her experience in strategic planning, risk management and sustainability would make her a valuable addition to many boards.

“The judging panel was particularly impressed by Annabel’s commitment to building her knowledge and understanding of governance principles and practice through formal governance training and by taking opportunities to observe board practice offered in the course of her work in senior management.

"She is well positioned to advance her learning in the real-life environment of the board she is placed with for the year of her award, and to confidently contribute to the board’s proceedings.

"The panel felt that Annabel's exposure to and experience in strategic planning, risk management, sustainability and opportunity creation will make her a valuable addition to a wide range of boards. She is a critical thinker with strong leadership qualities, able to contribute a very good understanding of environmental, social and cultural considerations at a board table.”

In her application, Annabel said that her greatest career influence is her drive for continual improvement, and she is constantly seeking opportunities to develop and broaden her governance abilities.

She has a Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management (Masters Equivalent) from the Institute of Risk Management (UK), a Bachelor of Resource Studies from Canterbury University and is studying corporate law.
