Released this September, the Charities Healthcheck guides have been designed as a high-level guide to prompt board discussions relating to key areas - people, policies, assets and governance, as well as providing deep insights into legal risk frameworks.

Compiled by Steven Moe MInstD and the team at Parry Field – a leading law firm for charities, churches, companies and entrepreneurs – the project ‘took on a life of its own’ with approximately 100 contributors involved, and is intended as an ongoing series that will continue to evolve.

“Collaboration yields better results,” says Moe of the project, which is aimed at an under-resourced sector.

“Those ‘for purpose’ groups do not have the resources of companies, so we wanted to empower them to upskill and help grow their capabilities,” says Moe.

Drawing insights from a vast network, Moe says the collaborative aspect was inspired by the quote: “To go fast, go alone. To go far, go together”.

He hopes that charities and those in the ‘for purpose’ or not-for-profit space will use the guides as a basis for asking questions. The guide also sets out the key legal risks for charities, addressing how boards from the sector can mitigate relevant risks for their organisations.

The guide is free to access from the Parry Field Charities Information Hub
