Mark is a partner at Buddle Findlay. He joined Buddle Findlay in 2002 and has been practising law since 1995. He regularly advises boards and management on governance issues, including boards of listed companies, council controlled organisations, trusts and public issuers. Mark is currently a member of Buddle Findlay’s board and a director of Isight Properties Limited which owns the Christchurch Eye Surgery facility.

As a company and commercial lawyer Mark frequently interacts with boards and management reporting to boards. He’s observed that effective management teams and boards don’t always agree, but understand and fulfil their respective functions and roles. Mark believes governance standards in New Zealand are rising as directors understand more about their role and the risks of getting it wrong. Mark facilitates the legal section of the Company Directors’ course and is always struck by the altruistic and public service values of the participants, which he thinks bodes well for good governance in New Zealand.

Outside of work Mark is a keen skier - ko Kā Papa Toitoi te maunga.
