Organisation description

Te Runanga o Whaingaroa was established in 1991 and is a mandated Iwi organisation in the Maori Fisheries Act 2004, an Iwi Aquaculture Organisation in the Maori Aquaculture claims settlement Act 2004, represents Ngapuhi ki Whangaroa/Ngati Kahu ki Whangaroa as an Iwi authority for the purposes of the Resource Management Act 1991 and is a registered Charitable Trust based in the mid/far north.

Te Runanga o Whaingaroa is also the 100% shareholder of our Asset Holding Company Whaingaroa Fisheries Company Ltd and supports distributions to registered beneficiaries through Marae as well as through educational, sports/cultural grants to individuals and teams.

Te Runanga o Whaingaroa has an operational service delivery arm focused on the delivery of Whanau Ora holistic services to all families/whanau and individuals seeking assistance in the wider Te Tai Tokerau area.

We deliver across social, health, education, housing (and is a registered CHP), justice and information/advice services to all families/whanau in our service delivery area.

Particular skills/competencies sought

Te Runanga o Whaingaroa (the Shareholder), seeks expressions of interest for the challenging role of Independent Director to the Whaingaroa Fisheries Company Limited (Asset Holding Company).

Key accountabilities to include:

  • Financial implementation and management
  • Business solution consultations
  • Commercial management and corporate intent

Subject matter expertise in the following would be advantageous:

  • Forestry
  • Fibre Optics Network
  • Fishing Industry

Qualities sought:

  • Leadership
  • Relationship Management

All Directors on the Board need to have sound and mature governance and directorial experience with a:

  • Passion for the region's development and the strategic intent of the Runanga
  • Track record with Maori Crown Business relationships
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to Maori capability building
