DANIEL STREET

Partner, DLA Piper New Zealand | International Co-Lead – Sustainability Reporting, Disclosure and Marketing

Daniel Street is a senior litigation and regulatory partner at DLA Piper and the firm’s Sustainability and ESG Lead in New Zealand. He also co-leads DLA Piper’s international group on sustainability reporting, disclosure, and marketing. His work centres on the intersection between climate governance, legal risk, and reputation.

Daniel is a recognised authority on climate-related disclosures, greenwashing liability, and ESG litigation. He advises boards, legal teams and senior executives on climate-related risks and opportunities – including impacts, biodiversity loss and supply chain scrutiny – and how these risks are being treated by regulators, investors, and courts. His cross-sectoral work spans listed companies, financial institutions, Crown entities and multinationals.

Daniel’s insights are informed by international engagement, and he has advised on some of the country’s most significant climate-related regulatory and legal matters. This includes supporting clients to meet their obligations under New Zealand’s climate-related disclosure regime, setting emissions targets, adapting supplier contracts, and managing exposure to green claims risk. Daniel brings an international perspective to emerging director obligations – and he is admitted to practise in both New Zealand and Australia, reflecting the increasing cross-border dimension of climate governance issues.

Daniel is a regular media commentator and contributor to thought leadership on climate governance and environmental risk. He speaks frequently on the role of boards in the transition, with a focus on directors' duties, evolving stakeholder expectations, and regulator scrutiny.

At the Climate Governance Forum, Daniel will cover the current position on directors’ duties regarding climate-related risks and opportunities. His session will cover regulatory developments, legal exposure, and what directors can do to show meaningful oversight and engagement in this critical area.
