Overview

We invite you to join us for this interactive breakfast event, where our panel will discuss the unique challenges being faced by the NFP sector. The panel will draw on their own experiences to provide insights on how might it best respond to the new world we are facing.

Robin Brockie

BCA, FCAANZ, MInstD, QSM

Robin is a retired Chartered Accountant and is currently, board chair and director of the Western Institute of Technology Taranaki, director of Tui Ora Limited, trustee of the TSB Community Trust, director of TSB Group Limited, director of New Zealand Institute of Highway Technology and member of the Standing Committee of the Anglican Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki. He is also chair of its Finance Committee, a Lay Canon of the Taranaki Cathedral Church of St Mary’s, chair and committee member of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation – Taranaki and trustee of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation.

Past governance roles have included, trustee and chair of Venture Taranaki Trust, chair and member of the board of trustees of Sacred Heart Girls College – New Plymouth, trustee and chair of the Taranaki Arts Community Trust, trustee and chair of the Dame Malvina Major Foundation and director of Staples Rodway Taranaki Limited and Staples Rodway New Zealand Limited.

Tim Coleman

Tim grew up in New Plymouth and attended Spotswood College before heading to Otago University to complete a degree in Law and a Science degree in Physiology and Psychology. Tim joined Billings in 1993 and has been a partner in the Commercial/Property team since 1999.

Giving back to the community is important to Tim and throughout his career he has been an active and committed volunteer for many organisations. He is a current board member of Hospice Taranaki, trustee of Hospice Foundation Trust, trustee of the Spotswood College Alumni Trust and Treasurer and Instructor for the New Plymouth Shorinji Kempo Martial Arts Club.  He is a former board member of the New Plymouth Golf Club and FC Western Football Club and a former trustee for Central Primary School.  In 2019 Tim received a Kiwibank “Local Hero” award in recognition of his years of volunteer work in the Taranaki community.

Ruth Smithers

Ruth has a senior executive background in health and social services and is an owner of business development and small manufacturing enterprises. She was on the Worksafe NZ board of directors in 2017 as part of the IoD Future Directors Programme and is currently chair and trustee on national and local not-for-profit trusts.

Ruth has a particular interest in the work of the NGO sector and its development, given the many opportunities and challenges being faced. She has worked across a few NGOs and supported significant organisational change and infrastructure development programmes. She also brings experience in design thinking approaches to deliver better social impact. Her work straddles clinical and business understanding, with an early career in nursing and is an MBA (Distinction).

Stacey Hitchock (moderator)

Stacey is a current New Plymouth District Councillor in her second term and is the chair of the Strategy and Operations Committee. Alongside holding leadership and governance roles in various organisations over the last 18 years, Stacey is also self-employed working in governance, strategy and facilitation and also works for the Department of Conservation undertaking workforce development initiatives.

With a passionate focus to drive community initiatives and projects, Stacey is a committee member on the Taranaki Trails Trust, Christmas at the Bowl, on the advisory team for ZEAL Taranaki, Centre for Creativity and Innovation, and is a host on the Most FM.
