Overview

2022 Local Body Elections are in October.  Ratepayers are the owners of many assets and in particular infrastructure assets around New Zealand.

QLDC is the 75.1% owner of Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC), an organisation significantly impacted first by rapid growth and then by a pandemic.

Glen Sowry CEO of QAC introduces the unique aspects of QAC and discusses governance and management challenges and opportunities within ratepayer owned organisations.

Glen will be joined in a Q&A  session by Paul Anderson, CEO of NZSki and previous GM Corporate Services of Christchurch City Council.

Speakers

Paul Anderson

Paul is Chief Executive Officer of Queenstown-based NZSki Limited and director of Trojan Holdings Limited.  NZSki owns and operates Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt ski areas, catering for more than 700,000 guests each year and employing in excess of 1,300 staff at the height of the season.  Paul has previously held senior roles in the private, public and local government sectors most recently as General Manager Corporate Services for Christchurch City Council.  He started his career as a policy analyst at the New Zealand Treasury.  Paul holds a Master of Commerce (First Class Honours) from the University of Canterbury, is Chartered Accountant (CA) and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors.

He has extensive leadership and aviation experience having spent over a decade in a range of senior management roles at Air New Zealand as well as being former Chair of the Board of Airline Representatives New Zealand (BARNZ). Prior to joining QAC Glen held CEO roles at Metlifecare and Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand). Early in his career he was a professional yachtsman, competing for New Zealand in the America's Cup, the Whitbread Race and the Olympics.
