Overview

The COVID-19 pandemic was a world-changing event that touched all facets of our lives, including our marketplaces and our roles as consumers. With health choices (e.g., vaccines, masks, distancing) the diversity of individuals’ responses during this time was often a source of great surprise or confusion for the world's governments and health organisations; these institutions expected a more single-minded commitment from their populations. Yet, marketers were less surprised by these differences; they simply observed this as evidence of multiple diverse segments in the population. As a field, we were able to offer insight about how people behave in a crisis, because we could frame the question as “how do consumers behave in a crisis?”

Dr Wood’s research focuses on how consumers respond and adapt to change or innovation. This applies both to individuals’ processing of new product information as well as emotional or cultural reactions to new innovations, trends, or rituals. Current projects include investigations of new product design and investment, expert/novice differences in new product adoption, consumer response to technology innovations, medical innovations and patient experience, successful adoption of risky innovations, and the neuroscience of change behavior.

This interactive discussion-style event will be capped at 20 attendees. You will be encouraged to ask questions and actively contribute your perspectives.
