Viet Nam is among the fastest growing, most dynamic markets in Asia right now. Noticed globally for its COVID-19 response, Viet Nam is now expanding its diverse economy, entering global supply chains and securing high-quality goods and services for its domestic population.
Panellists will examine the growth phenomenon that is Viet Nam and the emerging opportunities for New Zealand business keen to explore this exciting country. The discussion will be further informed by research recently published by the Asia New Zealand Foundation which surveys our past, present and potential future connections with Viet Nam.
Haike Manning was New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam (2012-2016), he has more than 20 years international experience, including 10 years living and working in Asia. Haike has a strong blend of government, trade, commercial and international experience, combined with a legal background. Founder of LightPath Consulting Group in late 2017. Based in Ho Chi Minh City, LightPath is a B2B consulting business specialized in international education. Clients are international education providers wanting to build their business/market share in Vietnam. LightPath provide advisory, market entry, and in-market support services.
Linh Nguyen is an Associate Director in Control Risks’ Southeast Asia practice, based in Singapore. Linh has advised a diverse range of clients on potential partnerships, market entries, business conflicts and other commercial relationships and opportunities in Southeast Asia. She has also spent a remarkable amount of her time traveling across the region, especially in Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam, where she has built up an extensive network of government officials and business sources in various sectors. Linh is also the lead analyst for Vietnam where she helps clients navigate the dynamic country that offers enormous opportunities but is very opaque and requires a detailed understanding of complex, changing political and economic environment to ensure success. Before joining Control Risks, Linh was a foreign correspondent for the Financial Times and Reuters, with posting in Hanoi, Jakarta and London, and experience reporting across Southeast Asia over the previous decade.
Warrick Cleine is the Chairperson and CEO of KPMG in Vietnam and Cambodia, and Managing Partner of the firm's Deals, Tax and Legal practice. KPMG is the leading professional services firm in the market, with 40 partners and 1,700 employees providing audit, advisory, consulting, tax and legal services from four offices. Warrick also serves as an Adjunct Industry Professor of RMIT University, in the School of Business and Management. He is recognised as one of South East Asia's leading corporate advisors, and is a frequent speaker and writer on Asia Pacific business and economic affairs, with extensive experience advising both the Government and leading companies in Vietnam and Cambodia on corporate governance, taxation and structuring issues. Both he and KPMG have been formally recognised for their contribution to the financial sector by Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning and Investment.
