Watch this webcast with MBIE’s Donna Purdue and Francesca Eggleton as they present on resetting towards a productive, sustainable and inclusive economy.
In this recorded webcast, Donna and Francesca cover new economic frameworks that are being used globally to address the grand challenges of our time, for example purpose-led business and mission-led innovation.
They also speak on how New Zealand is at a pivotal point in time as we respond to COVID 19 disruption while shifting to a more sustainable, productive and inclusive future. The Government has set clear environmental and social target and we need to reset to an economy that helps to achieve and sustain these targets. While the transition to the future presents many risks and challenges around climate change, technology and shifting global relationships, there are also many opportunities for New Zealand businesses and communities.
Donna has been the Chief Economist at the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) since 2016. In her role, Donna is responsible for leading the thinking on the economic frameworks used to underpin MBIE’s policy analysis, leading and shaping the direction of MBIE’s strategic research programme, and providing monitoring and analysis of key economic trends and their implications for policy advice and regulatory stewardship.
Donna has a Bachelor of Social Science with First Class Honours in Economics from Waikato University. Throughout her career she has worked in both the private and public sectors providing practical economic insights to businesses, investors and government to support their decision-making. Her substantive roles have been in the banking sector working as an economist for Westpac and Kiwibank. Prior to joining MBIE, Donna was a Principal Advisor at the New Zealand Treasury supporting the forecasting and modelling, and macroeconomic and fiscal policy teams.
Francesca Eggleton is a Principal Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, focusing on what the future New Zealand economy could look like and the strategy and system we need to get there. Prior to MBIE, Francesca was at Fonterra for six years managing their global climate strategy, and at the New Zealand Productivity Commission and Treasury advising on innovation and economic strategy. Francesca’s career has been focused on how we innovate and transition to a sustainable, inclusive and productivity economy.
Francesca has a First Class Honours Degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) from the University of Canterbury. She has been invited to speak at global events such as the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference on the role of technology and business in addressing the climate crisis.
