Overview

New and aspiring directors are invited to the first of our FirstBreak panel and networking meetings this year, the theme - ‘establishing a governance career’.  

MC for the evening is Brent Impey, chair of NZ Rugby and a member of the Auckland Branch Committee. Following the panel discussion, new or aspiring and other directors will be invited to network with senior IoD directors over drinks and canapes.

Brent Impey

Brent is chair of the New Zealand Rugby Union, is director and chair of the Remuneration Committees of Yellow Pages Group and Devon Funds Management Limited, chair of SANZAAR and director of Strategy at Ports of Auckland. He is also a media consultant and a professional mentor.

Previous board, consultancy and chief executive positions include: chair of Hutchwilco NZ, The Radio Bureau, Television Broadcasters Council and Fred Hollows Foundation; director of Freeview, Pumpkin Patch and Radio Broadcasters Association; on the management board of CanWest Global (operators of the FM Group); management consultant to Market Pulse International and the New Zealand Rugby Union; and media and business consultant to Gerson Lehrman Group. For nearly a decade he was CEO of MediaWorks NZ, and drive host on Radio Live (2010-2011). He was CE of Independent Broadcasting Group (1989-1992) and a partner at McElroy Milne Barristers & Solicitors (1984-1989) specialising in media law.

Brent is a Member of the IoD and joined the Auckland Branch Committee in 2013.

Rob Campbell

Rob is a professional director and investor. His current directorships include chair of Skycity Entertainment Group Ltd, Summerset, Tourism Holdings and WEL Networks, and a director of Precinct Properties. He is also an investment committee member of Silverfern Co-Investment Partners (US), an advisory board member of VGI Partners (US, Australia), and owner/director of Tutanekai Investments Ltd (NZ).

Rob holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Economic History and Political Science, and Master of Philosophy in Economics. He was also Senior Scholar in his final year at Victoria University and a member of the University’s Professorial Board. In 2017 Rob was awarded the NZ Shareholders Association Beacon Award and the Deloitte NZ Chair of the Year Award. This year he became a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Kirsty Campbell

Kirsty is a professional director and commercial adviser who has held a range of roles in corporate finance, banking, law and regulation.  

She is a member of the board of Public Trust, an independent director of NZHL, Salt Funds, Toitū Envirocare and New Plymouth PIF Guardians. She is also a member of the NZ Markets Disciplinary Tribunal and has several other governance roles.

Her previous roles include Simplicity NZ (Independent Director), the Financial Markets Authority (Head of Supervision) and ANZ Commercial & Agri.

Kirsty is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, an Accredited Investment Fiduciary®, a certified member of INFINZ and a member of Global Women. She has a Bachelor of Law (Hons) and a post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, from the University of Edinburgh.

Susan Peterson

Susan is an experienced independent director on both ASX and NZX listed companies. She is currently an independent director of listed companies Xero, Trustpower, Vista Group and Property for Industry. Susan is also a past director of ASB Bank, The New Zealand Merino Company and Compac Sorting Solutions. Susan is a member of the New Zealand Markets Disciplinary Tribunal and on the Board of Global Women. Susan is a co-chair and shareholder of the health and wellness start-up Organic Initiative.
