Establishing a governance career
New and aspiring directors are invited to the first of our FirstBreak panel and networking meetings this year, the theme - ‘Establishing a governance career’. As previously, the event will bring together a diverse mix of experienced senior and other directors.
MC for the evening will be Brent Impey, Chair of NZ Rugby and a member of the Auckland Branch Committee. Following the panel discussion, new/aspiring and other directors will be invited to network with senior IoD directors over drinks and nibbles.

The theme for this meeting will focus on establishing a governance career. A specialist panel comprising Rob Campbell, Dr Sarah Sandley and Carolyn Steele.
Rob is Chair of SKYCITY Entertainment Group Ltd, Summerset, Tourism Holdings and WEL Networks and a director of Precinct Properties. He also advises a number of hedge and private equity funds.
Dr Sarah Sandley
Sarah is an experienced businesswoman, chief executive and director with a keen interest in literature and sport. Currently, she is CEO of Aktive, and serves on the board of the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Previous executive and governance positions include having been CEO of the trans-Tasman APN Magazine Group (a subsidiary of APN NZ and publisher of some of the country's leading titles like the NZ Listener), a founding Trustee and Chair of the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival Charitable Trust, founding Chair of the international Katherine Mansfield Society and serving on the board of the government agency Sport NZ (then SPARC). Sarah, who is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Chartered Member of the NZ IoD, joined the Auckland Branch Committee in 2012.
Carolyn is currently a director of Metlifecare, WEL Networks, Ultrafast Fibre, Green Cross Health and the Halberg Foundation and is a Trustee of the New Zealand Football Foundation. She was previously on the board of Datacom Group Limited. Carolyn was previously a Portfolio Manager at Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation, the Crown entity which manages the New Zealand Superannuation Fund. Prior to joining the Guardians in 2010, Carolyn spent more than 10 years in investment banking at Forsyth Barr and Credit Suisse.
