Leading through Change
In a white paper last year, Forbes Inc. concluded that 87% of business owners globally “anticipate significant disruption” in the near future as we enter, what is now commonly referred to as the 4th Industrial Revolution.
In this 40 minute presentation, Laurie takes a look at some of the recent headlines in the popular press. Are these real or sensational? The World Economic Forum located in Zurich, have a more positive view. Yes change is coming (perhaps like never before) but there is good news and bad news. The most critical aspect in their report however is, “how little notice businesses and governments” globally are taking of this looming threat.
There are currently, numerous talks across the country about the ‘future of business in the tech age’, but very few focus on what our customers are telling us they want right now. We view this as a balance between what humans can do that Robots, AI (Artificial Intelligence) or Algorithms can’t. Perhaps there exists a 2 to 5 year window before the ‘revolution’ truly hits us!
An interesting conclusion becomes obvious and a common thread weaves itself through research on the 5 Key Elements customers want from business right now. These are game changes and will hold businesses in good stead as they journey towards technology changes…. they are simple to implement and highly effective, and we provide a few examples of what some businesses are doing differently with dramatic results.

Having started in banking 40 years ago, Laurie’s current role is Head of Coaching and Development at ASB.
His prime focus is on people development, leadership and professional (emotional/soft) skills. These range but are not limited to coaching and leadership, presentation and communication, negotiating, networking, changing business trends and business development.
Laurie conducts seminars and workshops, 70% of which are to external clients, prospects or professionals as part of a programme of deepening relationships and increasing business development opportunities. The other part of his role is focussed on the development of ASB staff.
Laurie works with a wide variety of clients such as The New Zealand Law Society, BDO, Deloitte, KPMG, Crowe Horwath, Coca Cola, Chambers of Commerce, and Mitre 10.
He is married to wife Kathie and they have three adult children and six grandchildren.
