HW Hon ANDREW LITTLE
Andrew Little is the Mayor of Wellington, bringing decades of experience across local government, Cabinet, Parliament, the union movement, and the law. Since taking office in October 2025, he has focused on practical, collaborative leadership and strong governance, including chairing the Chief Executive Performance Review Committee and working with regional partners on infrastructure, water, and emergency management. Prior to becoming mayor, Andrew served as a Labour Member of Parliament from 2011 to 2025 and led the Labour Party and the Opposition from 2014 to 2017. In government he held senior portfolios including Justice, Health, Defence, Immigration, Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations, and responsibilities for New Zealand’s intelligence and security agencies, alongside coordinating the response to the Royal Commission into the Christchurch mosque attacks. Earlier in his career, he practised as an employment lawyer and held leadership roles within the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union. Andrew holds degrees in law and philosophy from Victoria University of Wellington.
