The IoD’s Chairing the Board course is designed to prepare directors for the challenges of chairmanship or improve the effectiveness of existing chairs, using realistic simulated company situations.
It is expected that participants will have previously attended the IoD’s Company Directors’ Course (CDC) and/or have significant governance experience.
Course Goals
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Define the role and responsibilities of the chairman in successfully leading a board
- Understand the framework for mapping directors’ development needs and developing individual directors and the whole board, with a focus on succession planning
- Plan and run effective board meetings
- Know how to chair annual meetings and communicate in difficult times
- Understand how to manage the CEO relationship and performance, as well as undertake succession planning
