The IoD clarifies the skills, competencies and experience the client is seeking. In addition, it establishes time commitments, remuneration and associated information such as board committee requirements.
It is important to understand the way in which the client does business to determine whether the director candidates are likely to fit the culture.
Then the IoD searches its database – the most comprehensive of its type in New Zealand - which is dedicated to identifying candidates for non-executive director roles. It records candidate skills and competencies, current and past board appointments and executive roles, and accreditation status.
The client company is supplied with a ‘long list’ of potential candidates. The client reviews the list and asks the IoD to determine the interest level of possible ‘short list’ candidates. The CVs of interested candidates are then presented to the client.
The client conducts interviews with the preferred candidates (with or without the IoD's involvement) and proceeds to an appointment.
